Woodenbridge Paddlers Blueway 10k Challenge

Sunday 21st August the Woodenbridge Paddlers will host a Blueway 10k Challenge on the Erkina and Nore Rivers. The Blueway 10k Challenge is part of a National programme rolled out this summer by Waterways Ireland and Canoeing Ireland which was aimed to encourage participants who had no previous experience of the sport of canoeing to become involved in a twelve week training programme which would culminate on the weekend of 20/21st August with Blueway 10k events Nationwide.

Over the twelve-week period the Woodenbridge Paddlers held two sessions weekly catering for over fifty paddlers. On Sunday 21st the event will get underway from the Woodenbridge at 12noon and will traverse the scenic countryside of South Laois to finish at New York close to the village of Attanagh. Following the 10k event refreshments will be held in the Fly Fishing museum in Attanagh where the host Walter Phelan will conduct a tour of his premises also all participants of the Blueway 10k will be presented with a momentum of the occasion by Ann Marie Maher Sports officer Laois County Council while reps. from Waterways Ireland and Canoeing Ireland are also due to attend. All canoeists regardless of participation in the twelve week programme are invited to come along and join the event on the day.
