Warm Laois welcome for Cycle against Suicide

Despite the horrendous weather conditions late Friday afternoon the cyclists and support personnel received a warm Laois welcome that would have warmed their spirits as they sped through the front gates of Scoil Chriost Ri and St. Mary’s CBS Schools on Portlaoise’s Borris Road.

The two schools had thrown open their doors to the nearly 1,000-strong group who were treated like kings. The schools’ majestic sports hall was the nerve centre of the operation as countless local businesses fed and watered the multitude. It was moving sight as local people did all they could to help the riding heroes forget the awful cold and wet conditions they had endured on the cycle from Thurles that morning.

The Cycle against Suicide group awoke refreshed and renewed on Saturday morning buoyed by the lovely weather for their long trek to Mullingar. We salute them all; every man, woman and  child a hero.
