UNSETTLED WEEK AHEAD
MILD AT FIRST, COLDER BY MIDWEEK
Conditions this coming week will be rather unsettled as the Atlantic westerly flow that’s dominated the entirety of the Winter months takes hold once again. Heavy falls of rain are likely between Monday and Tuesday, renewing a risk of some flooding across the west and the Midlands, followed in turn by colder, showery conditions from Tuesday night onward.
Some more flooding may well continue to affect many parts of Laois during another unsettled week
Monday will begin overcast and wet with heavy rain crossing the country from the west, leading to some tricky driving conditions with a risk of spot flooding. Totals of between 15-25 mm are possible in some areas. Heavy rain continuing on Monday night with further heavy falls in the west and northwest. Highs on Monday of between 8-11 degrees Celsius.
Tuesday will begin overcast in many areas with scattered outbreaks of rain likely from time to time. The rain will become more showery in nature throughout Tuesday, eventually clearing to showers overnight. Feeling cooler as the day progresses with highs of between 7-10 degrees Celsius.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be showery days across the country with fresh to strong west to northwest winds feeding in plenty of showers. Some of the showers will be heavy with a risk of scattered thunderstorms, and some will fall as hail or sleet at lower levels, with some accumulations of snow possible above 300 meters, especially during the nights.
Frosty conditions are expected during this period with lows falling below freezing, leading to a risk of icy conditions on roads and dangerous driving conditions. Daytime values during this period are expected to range between 5-8 degrees Celsius, but feeling more like 1-3 degrees Celsius given the strong west to northwest winds.
Indications suggest that our weather will remain rather unsettled next weekend with a risk of further low pressure systems passing southeastwards across the country. Further updates will follow however during the week.
