The Waterloo Picnic
The Waterloo picnic is a Midsummer evening of words and music to celebrate the 200thanniversary of the great battle. It’s on Sunday, June 21st 2015 at 6pm in Roundwood House, Mountrath, Co Laois.
This unique event will feature the Delmaine String Quartet and a cast of actors and singers in a programme of music, song, poetry and prose to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo and the Duke of Wellington’s historic connection with the Irish countryside. Works by Haydn and Mozart will be performed alongside pieces composed by the Duke’s own father, Garret Wesley, who was the first professor of music at Trinity College.
Actors Michael James Ford and Gary Jermyn will relive the famous battle through poems, letters and the Duke’s own military dispatches, while singers will deliver some of the popular airs of the period.
Spectators will be served spit roast pig from the barbecue and will be encouraged to bring their own additional picnic supplies to make the most of this al fresco feast in the beautiful grounds of Roundwood House. Wine and soft drinks will be available.
Tickets, including roast pork and a glass of chilled wine on arrival, are €30 and early booking is advised on (057) 873 2120.
