The Sticky Wicket
A mixed weekend for Laois as much like the Ireland game started of on a high and ended on a low.
On Saturday Laois 2 took to the field against Bagenalstown CC in a League clash. Laois went in to bat first and posted a decent score of 196 with a batting masterclass by F.Moore who ended with a graceful score of 72. He was accompanied by newly-appointed Leinster u-15 representative J.Hussain who also scored an impressive 34 continuing his good form.

Bagenalstown were sent into bat and started of well but with good bowling from U.Raees who took 3 wickets and A.Raza who took a feisty 4 wickets helped see the fall of the Carlow men. In the end Laois pulled through and won by 47 runs.
Sunday’s battle saw Clontarf travel to Togher in order to take the title fight away from Laois 2 who won the cup last season. Clontarf won the toss and batted first. A few dropped catches from the home team but still managed to get Clontarf all out for 120 which seemed like a breeze to chase. The pick of the bowlers was V.Tewatia who took 4 wickets from his bowling spell.
Laois started of well with the reliable F.Moore scoring 44 and V.Tewatia helping him on his way with 30 odd. But it wasn’t to be as good bowling from the Clontarf men knocked the Laois men all out who were short by 20 runs. A disappointing loss but one of very few this summer. Laois are now fully focused on the league title. So far Laois 2 are at the top of the Leinster league.
