Summer Arts Programme gets off to a great start

Laois County Council Summer Arts Programme for young people has taken off with a blast as young people from Mountmellick got a chance to try out some new skills in the form of circus art with circus artist Maria Corcoran as she introduced them to juggling, hula hoop, balance, magic, acrobatics and much more.   Art in week two  with artist Jen Donnery from 16th to the 18th July is  proving to be a great success with budding young artists having fun at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally in a programme called ‘Art in our Environment”, using recycled materials to make individual and group pieces .   Well known artist Mary Burke will host a week long Portfolio Preparation Course in Portlaoise, for young adults to help them prepare for Art College or to assist with Leaving Cert coursework.

The final week of the programme is for Dance in Portlaoise, running  from Tuesday 30th July to Thursday 1st August  when dance tutor Maria Cashin will host fun-filled workshops as an introduction to hip hop, jazz and free style dance.  Places are still available on the portfolio preparation and dance workshops so contact the Arts Office: 057 8664033/13 or E: to book a place.
