‘Stove Side Sessions’ in Bergin’s
Hi,
My name is Ruaidhrí Tierney. I am a button accordionist from Ballydavis, Portlaoise.
Recently myself and my friends Bill O’Brien and Senan Moran have been running a traditional Irish music session in Andy Bergin’s Bar, Portlaoise on Sunday’s from 4-6pm. We call this the ‘Stove Side Sessions.’ The music session is significant as it is specifically aimed at young people of intermediate/advanced standard playing.

‘Stove Side Sessions’
Everyone gets a chance to play a tune or sing a song. This allows young aspiring Laois trad musicians to gain confidence in their skills in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere at a convenient time of the week. They can mix with other young people from across Laois’ seven Comhaltas branches and other organisations such as Music Generation Laois allowing them to form bonds both friendly and musically.
As we give up our time voluntarily to run this on Sundays,

Head to Andy Bergin’s on a Sunday!
I would appreciate if you could run a story or publicise the Stove Side Sessions in some way across your media platforms. This would create more public interest in informal Trad music sessions in our county town which has been lacking in recent years. We started back on Sunday 10th of November and have enjoyed huge crowds of musicians turning up and wish to keep up that momentum. We plan to take a break for a short while over the summer period as everyone is either away on holidays, gigging, or playing in fleadh ceoils. For any photos, videos or other information on this great series of events for young aspiring musicians do not hesitate to email me. Also, check out my Facebook page “Ruaidhrí Tierney Accordion Music” and my instagram “ruaidhritierneymusic” for more information. I appreciate all the publicity you can give to this exciting voluntary project.
Kind regards,
Ruaidhrí Tierney
