An exceptionally strong summer storm is looking increasingly likely through tomorrow night into Thursday morning, with significant weather warnings likely to be issued across large parts of the country. The storm is as a result of the remains of ex-tropical storm Kyle which will transition into a powerful extra-tropical storm as it impacts Ireland.
The ECMWF, UKMO, HIRLAM, and ARPEGE weather models now all agree on the development of a significant storm through tomorrow night into Thursday morning. Windspeed predictions are phenomenal at present, with figures along the south coast expected to reach anywhere between 150-175 km/h, based on the latest weather models.
A large degree of uncertainty however remains in place with a little over 36 hours to go before the arrival of the storm. The system responsible for this threat has yet to actually form and will remain small in size despite its power and could track along the west coast or make a straight run at Ireland and pass through the centre also.
I will keep you posted on all developments related to this storm over the coming hours.
