Good Friday Peace Agreement and The Foyer Contents of The World’s Most Famous Hotel For Auction.

Two Extraordinary Elements To An Auction In County Laois; political history and historical luxury.

Auction Part 1:

A rare copy of the Good Friday Agreement, signed and dated by the recently deceased John Hume comes up for auction at Sean Eacrett antiques on September 19 next.

This Good Friday Agreement document is truly a rarity; the declaration signed by former UK Prime Minister John Major and the late Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, with fly sheets signed by not only the late John Hume but also by others no longer with us, such as Martin McGuinness, Mo Mowlam, Seamus Mallon, and David Ervine.

These signatures only add to the value of the document.

The political autograph collection continues with former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Senator George Mitchell and General John De Chastelain.

It is remarkable and a testimony to the history of the events of the night when those present worked through to dawn to get the breakthrough, and then signed each other’s documents for the sake of posterity.

The reserve for this signed copy of the Good Friday Agreement is €15,000 – 20,000

Auction Part 2:

The Furniture from the Lobby Of The Luxury Hotel That Will Not be Named.

The aforementioned agreement is being sold as part of an intriguing auction; along with the contents of the foyer of the luxury hotel that cannot be named.

Located in London’s Mayfair, the hotel is as famous as the city itself and the very byword in luxury; yet it cannot be identified for contractual reasons.

Seventy items including giant oriental urns, vast wool carpets, lamps and mahogany desks are the gems on offer to those who would like to bring a bit of five-star old-world prestige to their home, castle or even corporate headquarters.

Five giant urns graced the foyer, almost two metres in height, hand painted and oriental in style now have a reserve of €5-800 each.

A gigantic mahogany desk featuring two impressive carved gargoyles would grace any lobby; the four metres desk is a steal with a reserve of €600-€1000. Three smaller desks at almost two metres each are also up for auction.

The foyer floor was adorned by three wool rugs now going to auction in Ballybrittas County Laois on September 19. Also featured are a pair of brass ‘Marley’ horses, standing at half a metre in heights in classic art deco style.

The seventy items for auction on September 19 in Sean Eacrett Antiques previously adorned what is arguably the world’s most famous five star luxury hotel.

(Remember, don’t say the name, hush hush, say no more.)
