St. Mary’s CBS Portlaoise has become the first school in Leinster to gain the ‘Amber Flag’ award for the promotion of positive mental health in school. The CBS will be sending a group of 10 tomorrow (08/05/14) to Cork for the award ceremony.
St. Mary’s CBS are also holding their Student Table Quiz tomorrow night (08/05/14) at 8pm under the auspices of their Parents Council.
Portlaoise College are screening their much-anticipated documentary film “The forgotten famine people of Queen’s County 1845-1850” tonight (07/05/14) in the Dunamaise Arts Centre. The screenplay was written and produced by Portlaoise College Transition Year students. Local primary school children will be the first to get to watch this film today at 11am in the secondary school. There they will also have the chance to talk to the students who made the film.
Agricultural Science students at Heywood College have been selected to take part in a national competition which they can use to form part of their Ag Science project for the Leaving Certificate Examination. From a total of over 60 entrants only 5 finalists were chosen with Heywood beating the cut. The Heywood College students will receive five Angus Cross calves at this year’s National Ploughing Championships. The calves will then be raised on the students’ own farms over the following year and a half. A final project winner will be chosen in April 2016 based on the quality of the project put together by the students based on their experiences.
