No stone is being left unturned in Mountrath in preparation for this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade. James Kelly this year’s Chairperson of the Mountrath Parade Committee and local independent County Councillor remarked “The Mountrath St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee 2018 are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to make the day one to remember for all involved. We first of all hold our parade to honour our patron saint St Patrick and it has always been our tradition to celebrate Ireland’s and more recently other countries’ History,Culture and Heritage through entertainment.”
The parade in Mountrath has been a much loved tradition and a pivotal part of the St Patrick Day celebration since it was first orchestrated in 1973. The Mountrath Parade Committee have chosen this year to commemorate Irish Legends including mystical legends such as Tir Na Og; living legends such as the Irish Rugby team or even Mrs Brown or on a more personal level local legends such as the football legend Bill Delaney. James Kelly added “The theme for this years parade “Irish Legends” will give an opportunity to all business’s,sporting bodies, community and voluntary groups, cultural displays and individual entries to showcase the best that Mountrath and its surrounding area’s has to offer.”

The committee have dedicated their time not only organising the parade but also canvassing all local businesses and clubs to show their continual support and enter a float into this years parade. “Our committee have been meeting on a regular basis and are very happy so far with the response from all our sponsors who without them the parade would not go ahead. We have also applied to Laois County Council for funding as there are major costings to stage the event with insurance and safety a must.”
