Portlaoise Students to represent Ireland in NASA’s GLOBE Learning Expedition

Portlaoise College science students have taken part in the first ever GLOBE campaign in Ireland which is sponsored by NASA. They are part of a very elite group which involves scientists and schools in 112 countries worldwide. An Taisce and EPA have given them the opportunity to connect with GLOBE schools from around  the world their project has been awarded first prize in a National Aerosol campaign.

The students have been involved in data collection using the Calitoo instrument designed by NASA. Their project involves collecting data, inputting data to a data base, comparisons to data collected by satellites and data collected in America and Israel. Their prize includes a five night stay in Killarney in July to the GLOBE learning Expedition in Killarney where they will receive further scientific training and connect with GLOBE schools from around the worldwide. Their teacher Miss Kinsella is mentoring them throughout this exciting time and is very proud of their achievements.
