Laois Young Environmentalists Impress Experts
Young people from Portlaoise College (Portlaoise, Co. Laois), along with other groups from across Leinster presented their Environmental Action projects to judges at ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards, Leinster ECO-Den on Monday 11th April at the European Commission Representation in Ireland, Mount St, Dublin 2.
The groups had to convince a panel of expert judges including Elaine Nevin (ECO-UNESCO), Karen Mahon (Alupro Ireland Director), and Claire Downey (Community Re-Use Network National Coordinator) that their project ‘Development of an Eco-Friendly Plastic’ deserves a spot at the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards 2016 Gala Showcase and Awards Ceremony in Dublin’s Mansion House, Wednesday May 18th.
Commenting on the Leinster ECO-Den, ECO-UNESCO Director Elaine Nevin said,
“The ECO-Dens present a fantastic opportunity for young people to a pitch to a panel of experts, tell them how their project makes a difference to the local environment and why they should be shortlisted for the finals in Dublin this May. The quality of the projects presented to us at the Leinster ECO-Den has always been very high and we are looking forward to hearing about what steps this year’s young people have taken to tackle environmental issues.”
