Portarlington’s Canal Road Business Park Officially Opened
Development provides four fully-serviced enterprise sites in Portarlington
Today (Wednesday July 8th) Laois County Council officially opened the Canal Road Business Park in Portarlington. The development provides four fully serviced enterprise sites, creating significant opportunities for businesses across the county.

The development is located on a 6-acre site, previously part of the Avon Cosmetics site, purchased by Laois County Council in 2024. The redevelopment of the site was co-funded by the EU Just Transition Fund and will support employment generation and consolidation of Portarlington Town Centre.

The site is strategically located, near key road and public transport routes and population centres, making it an ideal location for businesses seeking to expand or establish new operations in County Laois.

Each of the four sites is fully serviced and ready for development, providing high-quality infrastructure for companies across a range of sectors. Laois County Council is currently Sale Agreed on all four sites.

“This is a hugely important occasion for Laois. I know that everyone here today has the same goal – to ensure that Laois is a wonderful place to visit, live and work.

There has been, and continues to be, a huge amount of work done to make Laois the place of choice for companies to build or even move their business. We are centrally located, we’re at the heart of the Irish transport network and we have an educated workforce in this county. I hope that many company’s stories start right here in Portarlington and it will be a proud moment for all of us to see those businesses thrive.”
Michael Rainey, Chief Executive of Laois County Council said:
“We are delighted to see this development officially opened. It offers great opportunity for businesses in one of the most well-connected regions in the country. Laois County Council remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment and delivering initiatives that support economic development, innovation, and employment throughout the county.

We look forward to welcoming businesses to the sites and seeing the positive impact this development will have on Portarlington and the wider county.”
