MESSAGE FOR PARISHIONERS
The Corona Virus has changed our world. It is difficult to get used to the new regulations and restrictions as we gather in smaller numbers and observe “social distance” from each other – the very opposite of community and community of worship. There is no obligation to go to Mass during this time of pandemic. Many are nervous and you should not be worried about missing Mass. But we do miss you and you are in our prayers. You are still a cherished member of our parish. You can join us via the parish radio or webcam (All Masses at weekends & weekdays from St. Michael’s Church, Portarlington are transmitted).

All of this has a huge impact on our funding. We thank you for your generous contributions in the past – The offertory (basket) collection ran the parish and the envelope collection enabled different developments (schools, buildings, halls) in the parish over the past number of years. We may never use the ‘baskets’ again. Many have found ways of supporting the parish at this time – Many continue to use the envelopes and place them in the boxes in the churches – Some of you have set up standing orders in the Bank – Others have handed in a donation. We are grateful and thank all of you who have contributed in different ways.

While we are grateful for your generosity, donations have been down over 50% in the last five months. We still need your support and ask for your support of the parish in any way that suits your circumstances, i.e. the traditional box of envelopes / hand in a donation / standing order through the Bank (details below) / Contribution to buckets available at Mass. Any parishioner giving more than €250 in a year to the Parish will entitle the Parish to a tax refund. There are also general DONATION envelopes available at the Church Porch.

ONLINE DONATIONS THROUGH OUR DIOCESAN WEBSITE
There is a donation facility now on the Kandle website & people can donate both to parishes (option for parish & clergy collection) & the diocese as they wish. On the diocesan button there is an option to donate to Trocaire, Retired Priests or other areas. The Diocese will forward any donations received for parishes. www.kandle.ie

The diocese recommends and encourages the use of face coverings at all Masses & other liturgical celebrations, along with the ongoing maintenance
of 2 metre physical distancing.

Some people are exempted from the wearing of face coverings, as outlined in the two jurisdictions: https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/coronavirus-covid-19-face-coverings and https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/aac74c-guidance-on-safe-use-of-face-coverings

It is recognised that whilst it may not be appropriate for the celebrant and some others (for example ministers of the Word) to wear face coverings, they should at all times continue to maintain at least 2 metre physical distancing from one another, and four metres physical distancing from the front row of the congregation.
