Killermogh Parish Union held their monthly whist drive on Thursday night last. The top score was Tom Gowing; First Lady – Mary McCabe; Second Lady – Lena McEvoy; First Gent – Ciarian Breen, Second Gent – Tom Lalor; Low Score – Damian Carter; Quarters – Kate Bennett, Francis Stanley, Mary Dohney, Sadie Carter and Margaret Slevin. The raffle winners were – Ray Seale, Pauric Dowling, Nora Breen and Pauric Dowling. The next Whist Drive will be held on Thursday November 26th at 8.30pm.
IRISH RURAL LINK:
Basic Computer & Internet Training for Beginners – Are you working in the Rural Community, Farming, Senior Citizen, Unemployed? “Irish Rural Link” is a non-profit organization. FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB:
Cullohill/Durrow Flower and Garden Club hold their November meeting on Monday November 9th at 8pm in Cullohill Community Centre. This month we hold our Annual General Meeting. We also discuss some ideas for Christmas. Our Annual Christmas Gala Flower Arranging and demonstration will be held in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow on Monday night November 23rd at 8pm. The floral demonstrator on the night will be Enda Phelan-Thompson. All are welcome to attend.

LAOIS 2016 COMMEMORATION PLAN:
The plan for how communities across Laois will commemorate the Centenary of the 1916 Rising will be formally launch on 26th November at 7.30pm in Áras an Chontae, Portlaoise. All are most welcome to attend.

DURROW CREDIT UNION:
Durrow Credit Union since it foundation has been one of the greatest successes ever in Durrow thanks mainly to the huge support it receives locally, to the wonderful staff and the great committees that kept Durrow Credit Union growing year after year. As of Monday November 2nd Durrow Credit Union Members joined with St. Canice’s Credit Union, Kilkenny to become a new and bigger Credit Union which will benefit the former members of Durrow Credit Union.
SOCIAL DANCE CLASSES:
Social Dance classes continue at the Community Hall, Johnstown on Wednesday nights from 8.30pm in a social atmosphere, while losing weight and tone the muscles you can learn the old time waltz, the quick step, the jive, the foxtrot, the slosh and many other dances. HEDGE CUTTING:
Landowners are reminded by Laois County Council that the period for Hedge Cutting runs from 1st September 2015 to the 29th February, 2016. Landowners have a responsibility to ensure that hedges, ditches, trees or any other vegetation growing on their land are not nor could not become a danger to individuals using or working on a public road. Hedgerows along the public road that require cutting or trimming back should be cut immediately and all cuttings moved… Many thanks.

LOCAL GAA BOOK LAUNCH:
A Book Launch will be held at 8pm on Friday 27th November in the Castle Arms Hotel for “A Score and Ten” by Seán Conroy (The Harps – Winning Titles for over 30 years – and other GAA Victories in the Parish.) The book – a pictorial history – will be launched on the night by Liam O’Neill, Past-President of the GAA. All are most welcome to attend.

DURROW GUN CLUB:
Members of Durrow Gun Club had a very successful first day of the new season’s shooting on November 1st last. The first day competitions were all very well contested with the eaviest Pheasant: First – David Donohue; Second – Michael Monahan; Third – Seamus Doyle. Longest Pheasant: First – Lee Donohue; Second – Ray Fogarty; Third – Michael Monahan. The best overall bird on the night was won by David Donohue. Congratulations to all our winners and a special thank you to the landowners who make this day possible. Thank you also to Joe Doyle who judged all competitions. The Tommy Thornton Memorial Cup and the Sean Jacob Shield was won by Lee Donohue, this is the third time in the club history that both trophies were won by the same person. Lee’s father David won both trophies twice in 1991 and 1997. Congratulations to Lee and best of luck to all gun club members for the season ahead!

FISHING:
Durrow/Cullohill parish Anglers held their last pike fishing competition of the year for the John Dwyer Memorial Cup. The competition was held on Grantstown Lake and it proved to be very difficult to land fish. The winner was David Walsh and runner-up was Pat Dunphy. Well done to all involved.

LAOIS KAYAK & CANOE CLUB:
Strictly DDF and Harps Dancing: Congratulations to all our kayakers who took part in Sundays Nore Basin Peddle and Paddle which took place on November 1st in aid of the Strictly DDF and Harps dancing fundraiser. This event included LKCC kayakers and Durrow High Nellie Cyclists paddling and peddling from Durrow to Ballyragget with a BBQ afterwards in Bob’s bar, it was a very successful event and the great weather and organisation of the event helped to make it run smoothly. There was a lot of fun had by participants of all ages and we look forward to our next event.

Laois Canoe and Kayaking club making waves
Instructors: Congratulations to Fergal Hill and Hannah Rafferty who passed their canoe instructor assessment recently. It’s a great boost to the club, we now have 8 certified instructor’s 4 kayak and 4 canoe (open boat). Well done to both of them.
