LADIES TEAM: Last Sunday (February 11th) our Ladies team took on a strong East End United side at home. Both sides started quickly with chances at either end. The Lions gradually took control of the game and looked the most likely to score. They did just that on the half hour mark when Sarah Delaney got on the end of a Shannon Kelly corner and the ball deflected off an East defender and found it’s way into the back of the net. The Lions continued to press for a second and got it just before half time when Sarah Delaney found herself in space and slotted past the helpless East End keeper. The Lions went in at half time 2-0 up. The second half was a different story as East End came back out fighting and really put the pressure on but a solid back four performance from Aoibheann Ryall, Ruby Quinn, Ciara Queally and Niamh Queally and excellent stops by keeper Cliodhna Kenny ensured the Lions kept their clean sheet in tact and the Lions claimed another valuable three points. This win now leaves the Lions in fourth on the table and only three points off the top spot in a really tight top half of the table. An overall great team performance by our Ladies.
RESULT: Junior League Division 1 Result – Lions AFC 1 V 2 Evergreen B. (Own Goal).
U11 RESULT: Great start to the David Doran cup for both our U11 teams. Our cup team beat Southend in Durrow while our shield team travelled to the Fairgreen and won 2-0. Great football played by both teams. Well done boys, keep up the good work.
U11 GIRLS: Our U11 girls took on evergreen last Sunday (February 11th) in very wet and muddy conditions – but they put on a fantastic game of soccer. There was some great skills on display with plenty of goals and fantastic saves from our keepers. Well done girls keep up the hard work!
