LADIES TEAM: Last Sunday February 25th our Lions Ladies team played host to a strong Newpark side at home in Durrow in the league. The game started at a quick pace with both sides showing their hunger for the valuable three points. A strong breeze favoured the Lions in the first half which seen a number of chances for the Lions but they just couldn’t find the back of the net. The opener did come for the Lions on the half hour mark however when a quick think Aoife Jordan pounced on a loose pass when see closed down the Newpark defence and the ball fell to Leah Kelly who slotted it home. Newpark looked dangerous from set pieces and found an equaliser right on the stroke of half time from a corner which saw the teams go in level at half time.
Newpark started the better side in the second half and it didn’t take them long to find their second to put them 2-1 up against the home team. The Lions then went for it going three up top moving Sarah Delaney up which soon paid off with Shannon Kelly cutting in from the left opening up the Newpark defence and finishing into the left corner with a brilliant solo effort. Minutes later Leah Kelly had the Lions back in front. The Lions piled on the pressure and an unbelievable effort from Aoife Jordan gave the Newpark keeper no chance when she riffled the ball into the top right corner.
Credit to Newpark who never gave up pressed to find their third but were caught on the break which saw Leah Kelly through on goal for her hat-rick and the Lions fifth of the game. Newpark did eventually find a consolation goal but it was too late. Strong performances from the Lions keeper Cliodhna Kenny and defenders Ruby Quinn, Kayla Dwyer, Aoibheann Ryall and Lorraine Treacy ensured there was no more joy for the visitors and the game finished up 5-2 to the Lions. Another strong performance which put them back into third in the league and only three points from the coveted top spot. Well done to all involved!

U16 TEAM: A tough day for our U16 boys in Clontarf as the boys lost heavily to a very good Belvedere side in the last sixteen of the Sketchers Cup. A Ciaran McMenamin goal was the only consolation for the travelling support. A big thank you to Belvedere for their hospitality and the best of luck to them in the quarter final.
