MUSIC CLASSES:
Adult music classes resumed on Thursday 7th January in the Heritage House, Abbeyleix. This term runs for six weeks until 11th February and are still accepting new participants. Beginner classes (on whistle, banjo, fiddle) run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, with Intermediate/Advanced classes (all instruments) running from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Classes are €10 per night – these are payable in advance on the first night. If you are aware of anyone else who is interested in these classes please invite them along! Look forward to seeing you there.

The Killermogh Parish Union held their monthly Whist Drive recently in the Parochial Hall. DURROW PARISH LOTTO RESULTS:

CULLOHILL CHRISTMAS CRACKER FAMILY FUN RUN 2015:
The Parents Council of Scoil Tighearnach Naofa, Cullohill would like to sincerely thank all those who supported the Christmas Cracker Fun Run on the 27th December. The big event was very well attended with over 185 participants. Unfortunately the beanie hats for each participant did not arrive in time, but these will be distributed next week to all participants. We look forward to your continued support.
BRIDGE CLUB:
Durrow Bridge Club continues in the Presentation Centre to the left of the local Catholic Church every week on Wednesdays. All are most welcome to attend.
DURROW COMMUNITY TEXT ALERT:
The Durrow Community Text Alert Service went live just prior to Christmas 2015. There are almost 150 members in Durrow registered to this new service. A test Text was sent out to all members at that time with the Text Alert Mobile Phone Number. Any person who registered but who DID NOT receive this test Text, please call or text either of the following numbers: (087) 6927409 or (087) 2797214.

The Durrow Community Text Alert Committee is currently arranging to put in place Text Alert Signs on all roads leading into Durrow and in each housing estate.
DURROW DEVELOPMENT FORUM:
The committee would like to thank all the members of Durrow Fire Brigade, the FAS team and everyone who helped in putting up this year’s Christmas lights. The town looked very festive over the holiday period drawing much admiration from locals and passer-bys alike.
CULLOHILL COMMUNITY CENTRE:
We would like to remind you all that an AED Defibrillator is located on the side-wall of Cullohill Community Centre. Pat Barnaville (086 8304420) also carries around an AED in his car at all times. An AED is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. In the event of a person collapsing and becoming unresponsive: Call 999 (landline) or 112 (mobile); Call any one of our local Defibrillator Responders – their numbers can be found in the Defibrillator box and start CPR immediately while awaiting responder and emergency service.

LAOIS KAYAK & CANOE CLUB:
New Club House: Laois Kayak & Canoe Club is delighted to have moved into their new club house at the Old Bridge in Durrow. What was the Durrow Pipe Band room was recently acquired by the club to continue developing kayaking and canoeing in the community. Members got an opportunity to view their facility following the club’s successful St. Stephen’s Day trip on the Erkina where over 30 paddlers braved the winter elements.
Introduction: With eight qualified instructors, Laois Kayak & Canoe Club will run a series of introduction and beginner sessions from its new base throughout 2016 for anyone interested in trying out the sport. Further details can be found at www.laoiskayak.com online.
Great Island Kayak Race: Congratulations to club members who braved the winter elements for the great island kayak race in Cobh last week-end, it was enjoyed by all.

Freestyle European Team Trials: The date is set for the Freestyle 2016 European Irish Team trials and will take place in Tuam Co. Galway on the 20th and 21st February.
Bobs Bar: We were sorry to hear about the flooding of Bob’s bar in Durrow, we have hosted our St. Stephens Day Paddle get together in Bob’s every year and for any business or home it’s not something anybody would want to happen. We wish the family the very best of luck in the coming years.
