No late-night train from Dublin among extra trains to serve Portlaoise

3 extra trains to serve Portlaoise but fight for the late-night service goes on

There will be 3 new trains serving Portlaoise when Iarnród Éireann introduces its new Autumn timetable.

These 3 new train services will be as follows:

6am morning train leaving Heuston Station will now stop at Portlaoise at 6.42am
The train from Cork to Dublin will now stop at Portlaoise at 10.25am in the morning.  This will be a new service from Portlaoise to Dublin
The Cork train to Portlaoise which leaves Cork in the late afternoon will stop at Portlaoise at 17.50pm on its way to Heuston Station, Dublin.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming had this to say:

“These 3 new train services between Portlaoise and Dublin are very welcome.“

Sean Fleming TD pointed out the continuing lack of a late-night-service between Dublin and Portlaoise however.

“However, I am not satisfied that a late-night train service after 11pm leaving Dublin for Portlaoise has not been approved at this stage.I will continue to fight for this service as it is vitally important for people who use the train station in Portlaoise.  While there is some movement in relation to improving this service in Portlaoise this late-night train service leaving Dublin is the most critical improvement we need at this point in time.I want to ensure people that I have been in contact with the National Transport Authority and Iarnród Éireann on this matter and I will continue my work to achieve this in due course.“
