Mountmellick United AFC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’
Mountmellick United AFC
Statement regarding the clubs ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Event held on Feb 14, 2015
Now that the dust has settled and the dancing shoes have been hung up, the committee members of Mountmellick United AFC would like to take this opportunity to reflect on one of the most memorable and successful nights in the clubs history and thank all of those who contributed in any way to its resounding success.
We are delighted to announce that the total funds raised from the event amounted to over €22,000. Every cent of this will be used to develop our local soccer club, improve our current facilities and ensure that the future of Mountmellick United is in safe hands.
The committee would firstly like to express our immense gratitude to those who contributed by purchasing tickets, providing sponsorship or making any other financial contribution. Without you, the event would never have been possible. We would also like to thank the entire production team, from the thirty dancers who provided an evening of unbelievable entertainment for the audience to the behind-the-scenes team who worked tirelessly to organise the event and ensure that everything ran so smoothly both in run-up to the night and on the night itself. They all provided an incalculable amount of time and effort to make our ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ night the resounding success that it was.
At this point, we would also like to address an issue that we have been made aware of since the final result was announced. Well before the night itself, all thirty dancers decided upon the fairest way to decide the ‘winning couple’. In our eyes, all thirty of them were the winners for taking to the stage and giving up so much of their time, but as the primary function of this event was to raise much needed funds for the club, it was agreed that the amount of money raised by each couple on the night would be added to the judges votes and a winner would be based on both of those factors. These funds were meticulously checked by two independent and most upstanding members of the community and verified before the winning couple was announced. While we are aware some sections of those in attendance on the night were critical of this approach, we have to remind them that this was a fundraising event and this approach proved very fair and beneficial to the club.
On that note, we congratulate the eventual winning couple, John Edward Moloney and Grainne Scott, while reiterating that every dancer who took to the stage that night showed tremendous courage, commitment and no shortage of ability and we thank them all for putting on such an enjoyable show for all involved.
We are still receiving words of gratitude and praise from people all over the town and beyond, and are confident that a great night was had by all. Again, we want to make our gratitude known to all who contributed to such a memorable event, and we look forward to continuing our development of Mountmellick United AFC for the benefit of the entire community.
