
Local Election update
It’s getting closer and closer with every passing day. As ‘D-Day’ arrives for the Local and European Elections milestone after milestone is reached. Nominations for the local elections have closed. However candidates still have until noon tomorrow (06/05/14) to withdraw their nominations if they so desire.
The breakdown of local election candidates according to political party shows Fine Gael has 460 candidates with Fianna Fáil close behind with 409 ‘Soldiers of Destiny’ going in front of the electorate. Sinn Féin has 190 candidates running in constituencies while the Labour Party fields 184 candidates. The Green Party has mustered 44 while the People before Profit grouping has entered 39 candidates throughout constituencies around the Republic. (Source: RTE News)
To be allowed vote one needs to be on the Register of Electors. The Register of Electors 2014/2015 was published on 1st February 2014 and came into force on 15th February 2014 for a period of one year. The Register is available for inspection at County Council Offices, Garda Stations, Libraries, Post Offices and Health Centres.
You can check if you are on the Register at – http://www.checktheregister.ie. If you are not on the Register and you wish to vote in the upcoming Local Election, you can now apply for inclusion on the Supplement to the Register of Electors 2014/2015. You can also apply to change your address on the Supplement. Application forms for the Supplement are available at your local Library, Garda Station or Post Office or on request from corporate Affairs Department at (057) 8664105 or by e-mail to register@laoiscoco.ie.
Application forms for inclusion on the supplement to the 2014/2015 Register of Electors must be completed and returned by Tuesday 6th May 2014.
