Leaves Festival of Writing & Music presents
LEAVES ON AIR
Dunamaise Arts Centre and Laois County Council Arts Office recently launched a revised version of the annual Leaves Festival of Writing and Music with a new chapter for 2020 in the form of LEAVES ON AIR. The festival, curated by renowned writer Dermot Bolger, began on November 4th and includes a series of 4 podcasts which are now available for downloading from leavesfestival.ie and also on Spotify or iTunes.
Exploring the power of the human imagination in Lockdown, listeners can enjoy readings from critically acclaimed and bestselling authors including Hilary Fannin, Anne Griffin, Marianne Lee and Carlo Gébler in conversation with novelist, playwright and poet Dermot Bolger which will be complimented with music by Uileann piper, David Power.
Now in its 13th year, the Leaves Festival of Writing and Music faced challenges set by Covid 19 Level 5 restrictions. For this year, writers and audiences cannot gather together in large numbers at Dunamaise Arts Centre and other beautiful locations across lovely Laois. The organisers including Festival Curator and Writer Dermot Bolger, Temporary Arts Officer Mary Brady and the venue team at Dunamaise Arts Centre were keen to find a way to celebrate the literary arts and music in Laois and decided to broadcast Leaves instead and present all events in the form of podcasts on www.leavesfestival.ie . Through these podcasts, Leaves On Air celebrates writing and music in a different way in 2020 and allows people to enjoy contemporary Irish writers, the art of conversation and wonderful music, from the comfort of home.
“The festival would usually take place at Dunamaise Arts Centre and other venues across County Laois but current circumstances forced us to rethink how we could best bring featured writers, musicians and audiences together in a safe, engaging and entertaining way. Together with Laois Arts Office, we are delighted to now present a series of Podcasts featuring our special guest musician and writers in conversation with Festival Curator Dermot Bolger”, said Michelle de Forge, Director of Dunamaise Arts Centre.
This programme of authors readings and interviews are available, for FREE, as audio downloads for a limited time period from www.leavesfestival.ie or on Spotify or iTunes.
The Leaves On Air Festival is funded by the Arts Office, Laois County Council and produced and presented by Dunamaise Arts Centre.
