TRENDS are dependent on cloudiness this week, as a rather damp air mass slowly dries out for several days. Where sun breaks through there is potential for temperatures to rise to around 20 C which is several degrees warmer than average. But if cloud holds then it is more likely to be around 16 C. There will not be much rain but it may be quite damp near some coasts. Some moderate amounts of rain may follow by about Thursday night with about half of a normal week’s worth likely by next weekend.
FORECASTS
TODAY will be rather cloudy to start, with patchy drizzle. Some brighter intervals will probably develop late this morning and into the afternoon. Winds quite light and variable inland, with a sporadic northerly breeze near the east coast. Highs around 16 to 18 C.
TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast, misty and damp, becoming foggy in places, lows 7 to 9 C south, 4 to 7 C north.

TUESDAY will also see a mix of cloud and sun, with some showers from a weak frontal band near the western coastlines, although these may not bring rain very far inland if at all, highs 17 to 20 C. Moderate southeast breezes 30-50 km/hr by evening.
WEDNESDAY will probably start out cloudy with patchy drizzle, and moderate southeast winds 40-60 km/hr, after which it may turn a bit warmer with mostly sunny skies and a persistent southeast breeze that could promote cooling sea breezes near east and south coasts. Lows 6 to 9 C, highs 16 to 21 C, but possibly held to about 14-15 C near onshore east and south coastal districts.
THURSDAY variable cloud, then overcast by late afternoon and evening when occasional light rain will move through (5-10 mm likely), after a few brighter intervals mid-day. Lows near 7 C and highs near 17 C.
FRIDAY variable cloud, showers, lows near 8 C and highs near 19 C. About 5-10 mm rain expected by Friday night into Saturday morning.

The rest of the weekend will be partly cloudy to overcast with some further showers, and Monday 8th or possibly Tuesday 9th may be a rather wet interval on current guidance.
