Report on Day 2 of South Leinster T&F
The South Leinster Secondary Schools Track and Field continued on Wednesday 11th May, with Day 2 featuring the Intermediate and Senior age-groups.
The standard is very high throughout South Leinster, and both medals and qualification to the Leinster Finals is hard earned.
Knockbeg’s Sean O’Sullivan finished 3rd in the Inter boys 800m, Jack Dunne 3rd in Senior Boys Triple Jump, and Jack Murphy was 3rd in Senior Boys Long Jump.
Orla Looney, Mountrath CS (and Portlaoise AC) finished 3rd in both Inter Girls Girls 1,500m and Inter Girls 3,000m
Aoibhinn Nic Domhnall, Gael Colaiste Ceatharlach (and St Abbans) won the Senior Girls Pole Vault, and Katie Baldwin, Presentation Kilkenny (and St Abbans) finished 3rd in Inter Girls Triple Jump.
Jack Fenlon, Colaiste Iosagain finished 3rd in Senior Boys 1,500m. The relay team of Daniel McLoughlin, Richard McLoughlin, Owen McGarry and Jack Spratt finished 3rd in the 4 x 400m relay, setting a new record time on the way.
Ava Foley, Scoil Chriost Ri (and Oughaval AC) was 2nd in Inter Girls Shot Putt, with Chloe Keenan, SCR (and Emo Rath AC) finishing 2nd in both Senior Girls 100m Hurdles and Triple Jump.

St Fergals students Kaley Couzens was 2nd in both Senior Girls Hammer and Senior Girls Javelin, Padraig Rafter finished 3rd in Senior Boys 800m, Thomas Bergin finished 3rd in Inter Boys 1,500 and Darragh Davis finished 2nd in Senior Boys Shot Putt.
Heywood CS had medal winners in Jack McMahon (Ballyroan Abbeyleix and District AC) who won the Senior 800m, Cillian Moran (Portlaoise AC) was 3rd in the Senior 5,000m, and Faye McEvoy (Ballyroan Abbeyleix and District) won Senior Girls 800m and finished 3rd in Senior Girls 1,500m
The Leinster Finals take place next week in Santry, over 2 days – Wed 18th and Sat 21st May.
