Laois GAA Handball Review of the Year 2022
The 2022 handball season proved a hugely successful one for Laois handball with a number of Leinster and All-Ireland successes to report. In the 40×20 courts, Laois captured two adult All-Ireland titles with success in the Men’s Over 35B and the Ladies Junior B championship. In the 60×30 alley, Laois witnessed further All-Ireland success with Andrew Dowling and Tómas Lennon (St. Brigid’s, Monavea) completing a remarkable double by adding the Men’s O35B 60×30 doubles title to the 40×20 All-Ireland title that they had won earlier in the year. At the Leinster One-Wall championships hosted by Clough-Ballacolla, Laois had five finalists and four championships successes with titles won in the Men’s Junior B, Men’s Junior, Ladies Junior B and Girls U16 grades. The highlights of the juvenile season proved to be the remarkable success of Féile na nGael 2022 which was hosted by Laois, Carlow and Kilkenny and the magnificent victory by Eadaoin Whyte and Orla Brophy (Cullohill) in the Girls U17 60×30 doubles All-Ireland final against a formidable paring in Tipperary’s Christine Percy and Ali O’Kelly.
