Latest Laois Sport: Banríon Gaels to celebrate landmark milestone this weekend
Eagerly-anticipated 10th Anniversary for Banríon Gaels
This coming Sunday September 17th our camogie club is celebrating ten years since it was established. We have had a year of activities to mark the celebration and the final club day will be to compete for the Tara Brereton Perpetual Cup. We will host a blitz for our core teams in Banríon Gaels against Faughs of Dublin from 2-5pm in O’Dempsey’s Killenard and the day will end with a match of parents versus our older players and presentation of 10th anniversary gift to all players and coaches.
Tara Brereton was the core founder of the Club and this Perpetual Cup will honor her commitment to establishing camogie in a football-dominated part of the county. Tara and her family moved back to Dublin in recent years and her family are now members of Faughs. This Cup we hope will be the start of a long link with the clubs where the teams will compete against each other at the various levels our club field with scores accumulating from each match culminating in a winning club on Sunday taking home the Tara Brereton Cup.
As well as the cup presentation and thank you to our club founders at 4.30pm we will bring the day to a close with all BRG players receiving a jersey to mark the 10th anniversary which could not have been possible without local sponsors SOLAS Eco Garden Centre, Rosie & Jim and Portarlington Credit Union along with many other sponsors both this year and throughout the 10 years.
