SNOW RISK FOR SOME THIS WEEKEND

The image below is taken from this mornings ECMWF model, indicating that there exists the potential for a particularly cold outbreak towards the end of the first week of February. This however remains just a potential at the moment, given that the event itself is some 8-10 days away.
However, given the potential impacts of such events it’s certainly worth mentioning and keeping a close eye on forecast updates over the coming days. Such events can bring particularly cold temperatures, along with a risk of heavy snow to certain parts of the country, especially across the east and Midlands.

In the meantime there is a risk of wintry precipitation on Saturday and Sunday across some parts of the country. The areas most at risk are Ulster, North Leinster and North Connacht. Higher ground will always be favoured for precipitation of a wintry variety, though some falls at lower levels will occurs also.
Further updates to follow later this afternoon and evening. Kindest regards, Cathal Nolan
