Durrow Tidy Towns / Durrow Development Forum invites you to an online webinar by Sustainable Energy Communities Ireland on Thursday 21st April at 8pm. The main topic of this presentation will concern the potential development of an Energy Master Plan for  the local community. DURROW COMMUNITY ALERT:

Gardaí are aware of a recent scam where members of the public have been receiving phone calls and texts from persons fraudulently advising they are a named official of the Department of Social Protection and being advised their PPS number has been compromised. The person receiving the call is then requested to verify certain information; such as their name, PPS number etc…Gardaí would like to advise members of the public to be wary of such calls and;• Do not engage with the caller or return the call• Never share personal information data with such callers or with people who make contact by text•

A member of An Garda Siochana or a Department of Social Protection employee would never request bank account details or personal data in a cold call or text.• A member of An Garda Siochana or a Department of Social Protection employee would never advise a member of the public to move money from their account or to purchase cryptocurrency or move their money anywhere to keep it safe.

If you or someone you know has received such a phone call or text, we would advise you to contact your bank and the Department’s helpline number 1890 800 024 (between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday), as well as your local Garda Station.

A fun weekend of paddling and on-the-water instruction for adults who want to learn the basics of kayaking with qualified Canoeing Ireland instructors.The programme includes: Level 2 Kayak Skills Award – Training and Assessment / River Safety and Rescue Cert (RSR1) / Annual Membership of Laois Kayak & Canoe Club / and Registration with Canoeing Ireland. A portion of river bank on the River Erkina has collapsed between Castle Durrow and the Knockanoran wood. It is not very safe. This has been reported to the Leafy Loop team and thanks to Mary for letting us know.

CULLOHILL COMMUNITY CENTRE NEWS:

Many thanks to all who bought a horse in our sweepstake on the Grand National. All forty horses were sold in a matter of days. The draw for horses takes place the middle of next week with the big race then next weekend. €1,000 for first past the post with prize money for second and third also. There’s also something for last place… €200 for the final finisher!Development works are ongoing with the new build almost complete. Once Covid restrictions are eased all will have an opportunity to view and avail of the excellent facilities.
