CULLOHILL COMMUNITY CENTRE: Currently committee members are visiting local households looking for support / donation following their recent AGM. The Centre continues to be an excellent facility in The Village with all contributions greatly appreciated.
CULLOHILL-DURROW FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB: The Cullohill and Durrow Flower and Garden Club are hosting their Christmas Gala Flower Demonstration in the Castle Arms Hotel on Monday 12th December at 8pm. “CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND” by floral artist Harumi Langford. CVESS: The Minister for Rural and Community Development announced the Community and Voluntary Energy Support Scheme (CVESS) on Monday last. This scheme provides a once-off payment to eligible charities and community voluntary sector organisations for their energy costs for 2022. The scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and will be administered by Pobal. The online application portal for this scheme will open on the Pobal website on Monday 21st November 2022 and will remain open until 3pm on Friday 2nd December 2022. CULLOHILL COMMUNITY CENTRE – PROGRESSIVE 25 CARD GAME – NEW EARLIER START TIME OF 8PM: Progressive 25 Card Game continues every Sunday night in Cullohill Community Centre at 8pm and all are most welcome. Winners on Sunday 6th November 2022 were: First – Padraig and Noreen Ryan; Joint Second – Jim and Anne Mahony, Tom Lawlor and William Carroll, Dick Brennan and Michael Kells. The Raffle Winners on the night were: Tom Lawlor and Willie Gorman.

CULLOHILL HANDBALL CLUB: All-Ireland WallBall Championship Finals – Unfortunately no joy for Laois at the Wallball All-Ireland Finals in Roscommon recently. Aoife Brophy was very unfortunate to lose out to Clodagh Neville of Limerick in a gripping game. Orla Brophy played very well but a deserved victory went to Carmel Kelleher of Cork. Andrew Dowling was also beaten by an in form opponent in Waterford’s Anthony Fitzgerald. Hard luck to all players.
LIONS AFC: Nine Lion’s players were in action on Sunday 13th November for the Kilkenny and District Leauge. Alex, Danny, Rian and Fionn all played their part in a 3-1 win over Carlow in the U13 competition. Ciaran, Liam, Eoin and Rob were all heavily involved in the action for the U15s in a 1-1 draw v Carlow, with Eoin on the score sheet. Lucy played the full game for the U14 Kilkenny girls in a defeat to a very good Wexford team. In the U16 girls and Olivia Hovendan starred on the left wing in a 3-0 win over the Metropolitan Girls leauge. Well done to all the players. Keep up the good work.

CONGRATULATIONS: A massive well done to our U20 Hurlers who won the County Final recently in an enthralling game against Camross. The game was very close the whole way through with The Harps slotting over three points in the final two minutes and added time to win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-14.

MOUNTRATH CHRISTMAS MARKET: The annual Mountrath Christmas Market will be held this year on the 4th of December from 2pm to 6pm in BloomHQ (Brigidine Convent). Expect Carol Singing, a visit from Santa, kid’s activities and a huge market featuring loads of local businesses and producers.

VOCEM DARU LADIES CHOIR: Vocem Darύ choir was founded in Durrow in 2017 and has established itself as a vibrant part of the local community for women of all ages. From the beginning, the choir actively participated in choral events and festivals, both local and national and have discovered that we thrive on performing in front of an audience, singing everything from rock to light classical. We focus on creating beautiful music, making friends and having fun. We just love to sing! Vocem Darύ Ladies Choir is looking for new members! Meet Tuesday nights at 7.30pm in the Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow, Co. Laois. Group singing has been scientifically proven to lower stress, relieve anxiety and elevate endorphins. RIDENT FITNESS CLUB – KETTLEBELL SPORTS AND FITNESS CLASSES: Learn to use kettlebells safely and effectively from one of Ireland’s top ranked and most experienced professional kettlebell sports and fitness instructors with over 10 years of experience in kettlebell sport and fitness. DURROW FIRE AND RESCUE: Do you need a smoke alarm? Or do you know of someone who does, in the Durrow, Cullohill or Ballacolla area? Every home should have a minimum of two of the life saving devices! Durrow Fire & Rescue will provide and install smoke alarms for anyone that needs them, and there is no charge for this service.
