Women On Wheels, Couch to 50K Cycle
The women on wheels programme will be running for 10 weeks. It starts on the 12th of June where the group will meet in Portlaoise leisure centre from 11.00 AM-1.00 PM. You will be provided with a couch to 50km plan that you complete individually.
Every second week, you will meet in a group and the tutor will provide skills of cycling in addition to bringing you out for a cycle.
The tutor will focus on the following:
1. Preparing for a Bike Ride: What to wear, what to bring.
2. Riding safely on the road: Basic road skills, advanced road skills, riding in the dark.
3. Riding as a group: Riding in pairs, riding as a group, group riding etiquette.
4. Using shared facilities: Riding in low volume traffic, riding in higher volume traffic.
5. Bike handling skills: Basic bike handling skills, advanced bike handling skills.
6. Nutrition & Hydration: Basic requirements, requirements for a cyclist.
7. Bike repair & maintenance: Basic bike maintenance.
8. Training for your cycling goals: Getting started, going further and cycling challenges
The meet up is scheduled for every second Saturday from 11.00 AM – 1.00 PM. There will be a WhatsApp group for support and if you are looking for a training buddy you can use one from the group if it suited you both.
August the 14th is the date the 50 KM cycle is scheduled to take place. This will also be completed as a group and with a tutor.
The €20 covers insurance for the 10 weeks with cycling Ireland, training log, cycling buff and a light lunch on the day of the 50 KM cycle.
