Latest Laois Event: Europe Day to be marked in Laois

Laois marking Europe Day on 50th Anniversary of Ireland’s joining European Economic Community

Laois County Council are marking Ireland’s 50 years of EU membership this Europe Day, Tuesday the 9th of May, at Portlaoise Library and Europe Direct centre. Midlands 103 will broadcast from outside Portlaoise library from 9am to 12pm, and will feature interviews with Sean Fleming, TD and Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Caroline Hoffman, Managing Director of The Cube, Portlaoise’s Low Carbon Centre of Excellence.

Into Europe: Ireland and the EU, a digital exhibition by the Department of Foreign Affairs which focuses on various aspects of Ireland’s relationship with the European Union, can be viewed throughout the day at Portlaoise Library.

Portlaoise Library is one of eight Europe Direct centres in Ireland, and joins a community of 424 Europe Direct centres around Europe, whose purpose is to strengthen the connection between EU institutions and citizens. Europe Direct Portlaoise acts as a contact point for information on the European Union, where the local community can access publications and brochures from EU institutions, and participate in events, including talks, exhibitions, and competitions.
