Latest Laois News: Ballybrophy upgrade welcomed by Laois/Offaly Sinn Fein TD

Ballybrophy Upgrade Welcomed – Stanley

Local Sinn Fein TD Brian Stanley said

“The planned upgrade works to extend the carpark facility to provide extra parking and upgrade lift facilities at Ballybrophy station is very welcome.

I have raised this matter directly with the Minister in the Dáil and raised the needs of these works in recent months I also followed up with his department and Iarnód Eireann.’’

“There is a chronic shortage of parking spaces at the moment and many commuters have to leave their cars on the roadside during the day to travel to work which raises obvious safety and security issues. The level of passenger numbers using this service has increased steadily in recent years and the new facilities will enhance the station.

Separately I have sought figures from Iarnód Eireann for the Ballybrophy to Limerick line and they inform me that a total of €22.8m has been invested over the 10 year period from 2011 to 2020 on improvement and upgrades to infrastructure on this line. In addition, €22.7m has funded line maintenance over the same period. This is a total of €45.5m in the 10 year period.’’

“This validates the point I have been making to expand the service and for Iarnód Eireann to put in place a marketing strategy to boost numbers of passengers using this line.

Ballybrophy is now well placed to enhance the Tourism potential along with the overall development of South Laois.”
