FAMILY FUN DAY
Portarlington Lions Club will hold their Family Fun day in the People’s Park on Sunday August 20 from 2pm. Lots of activities for the young, and not so young.
The Club will also have a raffle on the day for 2 hampers valued at €200 each, with a 3rd prize of large amount of fuel. Tickets for raffle will be for sale on August 18 & 19 at Centra Main St & Supervalu. Also tickets for sale on the day.

WOMEN’S SHED
The Portarlington Women’s Shed are now back from their holidays. Meeting every Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Portarlington Community Centre. Lots of activities & outings. New members are very welcome.
Heritage Week 2023 – Living Heritage.
To mark Heritage Week 2023 the Portarlington Arts & Heritage Group will host an event in the Portarlington Library on next Thursday August 17 at 8pm, illustrating how two local buildings have become part of our living heritage. Liam Murphy, Irish Rail, will give a talk on the restoration of buildings at Portarlington Railway Station, and plans for their future use. As part of the talk the original drawings for the station from 1845 will be on display for the first time in over 150 years.
This will be followed by a talk on the restoration of Woodbrook House by the current owner Ray Simmons. The evening will conclude with a short talk on Portarlington’s forgotten artist, Walter Chetwood Aiken. Admission is free and all are welcome. Deepest Sympathy to the family of Peter O’Connell, Bog road Portarlington & late of Dublin who passed away on Wednesday August 2nd surrounded by his loving family. Peter was predeceased by his infant daughter Aideen. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Oonagh, family Shivaun, Terry, Orlagh & Peter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family, neighbours and friends. Funeral took place on Monday August 8. May Peter rest in Peace.

Ann was predeceased by her husband Peter (Dick) Murphy, sisters Amanda & Marcella & her great-grandchild Aibhne. Ann will be sadly missed by hers sons Michael, Richard & Barry, daughters Donna & Amanda, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Bridget, Liz, Carmel & Geraldine, brother John, extended family, neighbours & friends. Funeral took place on Saturday August 12. May Ann’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

FAMILY FUN DAY
O’Dempsey’s Family Fun Day will be held at the Old Pound on Saturday August 26.
The event will see an afternoon of activities and entertainment for children of all ages.
The day will run from 2pm to 5pm, and a timetable of activities will be shared soon, so keep an eye out for all that’s in store for the day! We look forward to seeing as many of our members and community there for what promises to be a great day at the Old Pound!
