This group are proud to once again to be bringing you the Laois Africa Day 2023. Only thing is this year is going to be way better than the other year’s, as we are expecting more countries. That means more food, more culture, more music and more happy faces. See you on Saturday June 3 at the Portlaoise Leisure Centre from 12pm to 5pm.


Portarlington RFC U14 & U16 youths are holding a Metal collection fundraiser  on Saturday  May 20, from 11am- 3pm at Solas Eco Garden Centre Portarlington. Drop off, or if you want collectionof large items contact 0863475357.


The very enjoyable Women’s Shed takes place at the Portarlington Community Centre every Thursday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Plenty of activities & outings. New members always welcome.

Deepest Sympathy to Mary & Johnny Maher and family Ballymorris on the death of Mary’s brother Paddy Lee, Mountmellick, who passed away on Saturday May 6th. Paddy was predeceased by his parents Thomas & Ellen, son Joseph, grandsons Jack & Callum. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary (nee Delaney), sons, daughters, his much loved 18 grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family, neighbours & friends. Funeral took place on Monday May 8. May Paddy rest in Peace.


Deepest Sympathy to the family & friends of Josie Lynam, Le Bergerie, Crowe Lane, Portarlington & Marian Place, Tullamore, who passed away on Sunday May 7. Josie was predeceased by her parents Ned & Maureen. She will be sadly missed by her brothers Colm, Eamon & Ollie, sisters Ann, Phyllis & Maura, extended family & her friends & carers at Le Bergerie. Funeral took place on Wednesday May 10. May Josie’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

John Joe was predeceased by his wife Marcella, partner Pat & sister Teresa. He will be sadly missed by his sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, neighbours & friends. Funeral took place on Monday May 8. May John Joe rest in Peace.

Portarlington Dinner Dance 2023 takes place at the Heritage Hotel Killenard on Sunday June 4. Doors open at 6.30pm for dinner. Music from 6pm to 7.30pm with Aidan Doyle. Medal presentation & guest speaker. Live band performance by the Seducers, with DJ till late. Tickets €45 and can be purchased from any Committee member. MC on the night Jack Nolan.
