HOST FAMILIES

Kind host families sought for Spanish students for the month of July. 

Host family must have a teenager (12-18) who is willing to spend time with and include the visiting student in their life for 4 weeks. Further information from Margaret on 087 2062162.

CONCERT BAND

Portarlington Concert Band are now recruiting Adults for our Beginner Band. Instruments are free of charge and include the following. 1. Trumpets. 2. Trombones. 3. Saxophones.

4. Clarinets. 5. Flutes. 6. Percussion. Lessons are available on Weekdays.  Rehearsals for the Beginner Band take place on a Saturday morning from 12pm to 1pm. For further information contact Pat on 0838510428.

Golf Classic 2023-After the enjoyment of last year’s outing, we’re happy to announce our Golf ‘Classic’ is happening once again at the Heritage Golf Resort on Good Friday, April 7. LIVING WELL

The “Living Well” Expo takes place on Thursday April 13, from 4 to 8pm in Portlaoise College, Mountrath Road Portlaoise.  It will be opened by Anna Mai McHugh, who needs no introduction. This event is a joint collaboration between Age Friendly Laois & Healthy Laois, which aims to showcase the supports available to all ages in Co. Laois, to Live Well.  There will be a main expo area, with 70 exhibitors in total  attending on the day, including sports and community groups, health services and technology providers who offer products to enable people to live independently for longer. There will be a presentations from the team at Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme, which is to be rolled out nationally in support of aging at home. There will be talks by Teac Tom, Meals on Wheels Network, Garda Crime Prevention, Fire & Rescue Service and more.

Along with the main arena, there will be 4 other areas offering health screening, demos on  safety technology in the home, personal alarms , GPS devices and more. Edufit will have their own area with information and talks on Peri-menopause, Menopause and Post Menopause and healthy cooking demos will be provided by the LOETB and our own Coalition Chefs.

SYMPATHY

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Mary Whalley (nee Coleman), Closeland, Ballybrittas who passed away on Thursday March 23 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was predeceased by her parents William & Bridget. She will be sadly missed by her loving son Michael, daughter Sinead & son in law Tom, & her beloved grandson Alfie, brothers Willie & Tom, sisters Alice (Maher), Breda (McCormack) & Ann (Duffy), extended family & friends. Funeral took place on May Mary’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

SOCIAL TENNIS

 Social tennis has started & will continue every Thursday from 7.30pm at the Portarlington Lawn Tennis Club. Dust off the rackets & get fit again. New members & all levels welcome. €2 per player. Ample parking at Dr Whites.

LOTTO-Laois Clubs combined Lotto draw takes place as usual, every Tuesday night. Next week’s Jackpot is €7,200. Tickets can be bought from club members or online via www.play.clubforce.com
