GARDEN PROJECT AT BNS

Scoil Phadraig BNS have started on the garden project for the new school on Canal Road. The central piece of the garden is the Trinity Loop, which has been commissioned as part of the “Percent for Art Project”. They will also have a sensory garden, outdoor classroom, vegetable garden and wild willow woodland. If you are a parent, grandparent, past pupil or a member of the wider Portarlington Community and you would like to contribute to this new, exciting garden project, you can donate through their Go Fund Me Page. All donations gratefully accepted.

PORT TIDY TOWNS

Portarlington Tidy Towns offer a sincere ‘Thank You’ to Portarlington Credit Union for their donation of €1,100. This money will be used for plants and shrubs to brighten up our town. The Tidy Towns committee are always looking for volunteers to help with their efforts to keep Portarlington tidy.

Deepest Sympathy to Pat & Mary O’Mahony and family St Joseph’s Tce, Portarlington on the death of Pat’s sister Frances Feely (née O’Mahony), Ashgrove Mountmellick who passed away on Friday April 16. Frances will be sadly missed by her loving husband Michael, son David, daughter in law Evelyn, granddaughter Malia, siblings John, Ciss, Teresa, Mary, Ger, Pat & Annie, extended family and friends. Funeral took place on Monday April 19 at St Joseph’s Church Mountmellick. Burial after in St Joseph’s Cemetery. May Frances gentle soul rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Frances Mary Lodge (nee Lyons), Derbyshire England, who passed away on April 21 at her brother Brendan Lyons residence Spa St Portarlington. Frances was predeceased by her loving husband Jim & daughter Claire. She will be sadly missed by her sons Tony, Michael & Alan, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, extended family & friends. Funeral Mass took place on Saturday April 24 at St Michael’s Church, Portarlington, with Cremation after at Mount Jerome Crematorium. May Frances rest in Peace.

PORTARLINGTON CONCERT BAND

Lessons are continuing on a one-to-one basis, and new musicians are always welcome. Contact Pat @0838510428. The Concert Band need your help. Due to Covid the Band were not able to hold any fundraising concerts or do their annual collections in the Community.  The Club are delighted to announce the return of their Tuesday night Bingo. Now online via Zoom with all the usual callers & a guarantee of €3000 in prizes each night. For anyone local who wishes to purchase a book for the Online Bingo but who do not have email access, you can order from the club by texting 085 8264994 via text or WhatsApp giving your name and address.

A reply will be sent back when books are ready. Books can then be collected in Brian Whelan’s Electrical shop on Main Street. Full payment upon collection. PLEASE NOTE: Cut off for Online book purchases is 12pm on Tuesdays and cut off for phone purchases is 6pm on Monday evenings.

With Covid19 restrictions finally beginning to ease, the Club are looking forward to welcoming all juvenile players back up to the pitch from Monday April 26 next, and hopefully the Adult teams in the very near future. Please note that for insurance reasons Portarlington GAA operate a No Pay, No Play policy, so please ensure that all players have been registered with the club before returning. Notifications will be issued through the Clubforce App this year, so please ensure you have downloaded the app and marked Portarlington GAA on your favourites list. GRACEFIELD GAA

The Club are looking for your help. Next Saturday is the final day you can drop off your unwanted clothing and other clothing accessories. If you are having a spring clean and want to help raise funds for Gracefield GAA this is an ideal opportunity to do so. Alternatively, if you can’t make it to the club to drop off your items, we can arrange a collection whilst adhering to the covid guidelines & restrictions.
