“So, today marks my end of a 3 year stay in wonderful Portarlington” I have to say the three years flew. I absolutely loved the town. It has been a privilege to both work and stay in this great town. I always felt welcome by the people of the town & I have gotten to know a lot of people & have made lifetime friends”. DERRYOUNCE

Portarlington Community Development Association (PCDA) committee welcomed Heather Humphreys TD, Department of Rural and Community Development, and officials from Offaly County Council to officially launch the Trail enhancements at Derryounce under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS). Derryounce Lakes and Trails Portarlington is on 355 Acres of woodland in Portarlington (Laois & Offaly) and is fast becoming a “go to” destination for nature lovers, outdoor recreation, and family days out. The Derryounce project and PCDA is supported by Offaly and Laois County Councils.

In tandem with the Launch of the Derryounce Trail enhancements by Minister Humphrey’s at Derryounce was the Official launch by the first ever activator pole trail in Ireland, for people using the hugely popular Nordic pole walkers ‘fit sticks’. The Fit Sticks Trail was launched by sport writer, former Irish running champion and walking guide writer Frank Greally. Laois Sports Partnership funded the Fit sticks trail.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of John Doonan, Bellgrove, Ballybrittas who passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday April 20. John was predeceased by his loving wife Betty & sister Anna. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Lorna, sons John, David, Trevor & Adrian, sisters Phyllis, Yvonne, Helen & Violet, grandchildren, extended family, neighbours & a large circle of friends. Funeral Mass took place on Sunday April 24 at the Church of the Ascension Rathadair, Ballybrittas, with burial after in the new Cemetery Emo. May John rest in Peace.

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Ann Ward, Crann Nua & formerly St Brochan’s Park Bracknagh who passed away on Monday April 25. Ann was a daughter of the late Frank & Mary Ward. She will be sadly missed by her brother Frank, sisters Esther, Tina & Marie, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours & friends. Requiem Mass took place at St Brochan’s Church Bracknagh, with funeral after to Mount Jerome Crematorium. 

May Ann’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

Noel will be sadly missed by his loving wife Betty, sons Nicholas & Barry, granddaughter Erin, brothers Mick & Dermot, sisters Mary & Jane, extended family & friends. Funeral Mass took place on Thursday April 28 at St Mary’s Church Lucan, followed by Cremation at Newlands Cross Crematorium. May Noel rest in Peace.
