MEALS ON WHEELS

Portarlington Social Services will celebrate 50 years serving the public next year. Started in September 1972 by a group of community spirited local people from different social and religious backgrounds, who saw the need for this service in the Portarlington & surrounding areas. These people gave generously their time and talents to establish this important service.

Delivery of approx 55 meals per day is still undertaken 3 times weekly, by a very loyal group of over 70 people, who give their time so generously. This means that last year up to 10,000   meals were prepared and delivered. The people who receive the meals are recommended for this service by their doctor or the local Primary care Nurses. To continue with this wonderful service, we are always looking for new blood on the Committee. If you are interested, please e-mail annmdun@hotmail.com or phone the Centre at 0578623461.

What a great weekend recently in Portarlington on both sides of the river. Well done to the Portarlington Senior footballers who beat Graiguecullen in the County final in O’Moore Park Portlaoise. Also well done to the Offaly U20 team in the all-Ireland final at Croke Park. They had a great win over Roscommon.
