BURSARY AWARDS

Portarlington Credit Unionare delighted to announce that they are offering 5/€1,000 Maureen McEvoy Bursary Awards this year for 2022. 

This bursary is open to first year students only. Students must have been awarded a place in 3rd level, full time education. To apply: https://portcu.ie/about/downloads. Pick up a form in the office. Phone the office and they can post out a form. Closing date is September 16, 2022.

SOCIAL SERVICES BINGO

The senior citizens Bingo will resume on Wednesday September 14 at the Social Services Centre, Link Road. The usual time of 8.30pm to start, with tea & biscuits & chat after. 

The Tidy Town's 'Spring Clean' of Portarlington on Saturday 23 April was a big success. Over 120 volunteers took part at 34 different locations across the town and surrounding areas. 190 sacks of rubbish were collected.

GARRYHINCH HALL

Any golfers who would like to participate in a Golf Classic to support the upkeep of St. Brigids Community Centre, Garryhinch/Cloneyhurke. The Classic will take place on September 7 to raise much needed funds. Please contact Eddie at 0872580428. Brian at 0862470201. CHRISTMAS CLUB

Dare we say it but it is 16 weeks to Christmas!! 

Have you set up your Christmas Club yet? As Christmas can be an expensive time, we are delighted to be able to offer our members a fantastic opportunity to join our Christmas Savings Club. 

You can save as little or as much as you can afford, up to the value of €5,000 for our adult members and €500 for our members up to 16. This money cannot be withdrawn during the year. These savings will only be paid out during a specified period in November/December.

The funds saved during the year can be withdrawn by cheque, transferred to another external account electronically, or transferred into a regular credit union account during the withdrawal period.

SYMPATHY

Deepest Sympathy to the family of Michael Gilligan, Coolbanagher, Emo who passed away on Monday August 29. Michael was predeceased by his father Jim, and recently his mother Ann. Michael will be sadly missed by his brothers Martin & Desmond, sister Shirley, extended family, neighbours & friends. Funeral Mass took place at St Fintan’s Church Ballyfin, with burial after in St Fintan’s Cemetery. May Michael’s gentle soul rest in Peace.

LOTTO-Laois Clubs combined Lotto draw takes place as usual, every Tuesday night. This week’s jackpot is €11.200. Tickets can be bought from club members or online via www.play.clubforce.com.

O’DEMPSEY’S GFC WALKERS

We normally do a 5km route around the village, but people are welcome to come along and do a longer or shorter route, and take it at their own pace.

PORT YOUTH CLUB

As the Club prepares to reopen to members, they are currently seeking volunteers. The members have grown in numbers and as such the club can only reopen with the support of volunteers to help to provide a service to the young people of the community to which they value very much.
