SCOUTS NEED YOUR HELP
Do you want to help to keep the Scout group open in Portarlington? No matter how much time you can provide, it would be greatly appreciated. We are holding an open meeting on Thursday May 26 at 8pm in the Scouts Den, Main St to discuss the future of the 4th Laois Scouts in Portarlington. There will be representatives from Scouting Ireland to answer any questions you may have. It would be very sad to see the group close after been in Portarlington for over 30 years.

SAFE CYCLING
Do you want safe cycling for all ages and abilities in Portarlington? We held our first cycle on April 30 and judging by the turnout then it seems that many people in Port certainly do.
Join us for our next monthly 7km fun, safe and family friendly cycle around Portarlington town centre Saturday next May 28 at 2pm. Start & finish at the rear of Solas Garden centre, at entrance to Lough Gate. For any queries, please contact portarlingtonsec@gmail.com or call John on 0857556240.

Garda Síochána Laois Offaly are pleased to welcome the great work from Love Portarlington to get the Portarlington Text Alert back up and running. Text Alert is a means for An Garda Síochána to get information out to communities. If you want to sign up contact Love Port office at 0578608395. The Love Portarlington office are working very hard in the background to get the Portarlington Text Alert back up and running. They are looking to see what Estates have a Residents Committee? If possible, could they ring the office on 0578608395 as they plan to relaunch the service in August, or possibly early September.

SYMPATHY
Deepest Sympathy to the family of Margaret Whelan (nee Dowling), Morette, Emo who passed away on Sunday May 15 surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Joe. She will be sadly missed by her daughters Margaret, Helen, Siobhan & Pauline, sons Bart & John, sisters, brothers, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family & friends. Funeral Mass took place on Wednesday May 18 at the Church of the Assumption, the Heath, with Cremation after in Newlands Cross Crematorium. May Margaret’s gentle soul rest in Peace.
SYMPATHY
Deepest Sympathy to the family of Denis Mahon, Portarlington & formerly Kingswood, Dublin who passed away on Wednesday May 18. Denis will be greatly missed by his loving wife Yvette, son Denis, daughter Naomi, grandchildren, brother Dermot, extended family & friends. Funeral took place on Friday May 20 at St Agnes Church Crumlin, with burial after in Newlands Cross Cemetery. May Denis rest in Peace.

FIRST RESPONDERS
Portarlington community responder group were stood down due to the escalating and ongoing Covid 19 situation. This also included the Portarlington First Responders. But the great news is that the National Ambulance Service have given them the thumbs up to start back up again. WOMENS SHED
A few weeks ago a group of ladies came together to start the very 1st Women’s Shed in Portarlington. The group will continue to meet every Thursday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Further Education Centre, Bracklone St. If you are interested come along and join, to what will be a very enjoyable meeting with lots of activities to enjoy.
