Latest Laois Heroes
That Laois abounds in people who make a mark both nationally and on an international stage goes without saying. Each year our county produces people who excel in sport, business, arts, media and in every other field of endeavour as well. This weekend we have seen not one but two of our own make their mark at home and abroad.

On the Irish sporting stage Portlaoise GAA and Laois GAA goalkeeper Ciamh Dollard was honoured with a TG4 All-Star award. It is no less than the Laois custodian deserves after serving up miraculous display after miraculous display in the colours of both club and county.

Away from these shores it was definitely a case of a double celebration for the town of Portlaoise. Ace local pugilist Michael Nevin went out and claimed a wonderful Gold Medal at the European Junior Boxing Championships. Indeed the Portlaoise boxer totally dominated the 66kg class and delivered in some style on the predictions of local boxing authority Eugene Lacumber. Michael is continuing where he left off in 2012 when he won the 52kg European Schoolboy Gold.

Well done to both Michael and Ciamh. You’ve done yourselves, your families, your town and county proud with your momentous achievements.
