Latest Laois Event: Mountrath Community School first-year students visit Bunratty Castle

First-year students from Mountrath Community School visit Bunratty Castle


On Tuesday the 20th of October, the first year students of Mountrath Community school, lead by History teachers Mr Cillian Hegarty and Mr. Aidan McGuinness, visited the acclaimed and iconic 15th-century Bunratty castle in Co. Clare. Mr Hegarty commented that Bunratty is a unique historic experience whereby the students can hear the many stories of battles and bravery, view the stunning views across the idyllic Clare countryside and enjoy a rural journey through the ages, visiting many cottages and exhibits. Mr McGuinness said that the ’19th century living village ‘ was a highlight for many , as students could visit the village shops, pub and a Georgian residence.
Many students enjoyed the Irish wolfhounds , and the great banquet hall at the castle.
Ms Kathryn O’ Brien; Mountrath Community School Principal, commented that the day truly made history come alive and meaningful for the new students. A great day for first years, to enjoy after their first term in their new secondary school.
