Latest Laois Event: Laois Arthouse hosts DÚRLA (Nature & The Environment) exhibition
DÚRLA (Nature & The Environment)
The Laois Arthouse, Stradbally, Co Laois, are delighted to present DÚLRA an exhibition by the Stradbally Library Painters. DÚRLA is their first group exhibition, and it opens on Thursday 30th November at 7pm at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally.
The Stradbally Library Painters began their journey in the Autumn of 2021, meeting on Wednesdays in the Stradbally Library as part of the LOETB community education programme. Library staff from Laois County Council assisted the group by organising local art tutors to support them with tuition in various painting techniques. Over time, the group has grown in size and artistic merit, allowing the Stradbally Artists Collective to develop. DÚRLA is the group’s first exhibition. The group worked with tutors, Billy Dollard, Orla McDonagh, Angela Delaney, and Aishling Hennessy and tuition was funded by the Laois Library Service and supported by the LOETB. The exhibition is curated by Portlaoise based artist, Aishling Hennessy.
The exhibition encompasses each artist’s vision of their inner and outer landscapes – with DÚRLA (meaning Nature and The Environment in Irish) forming the commonality between the works on show. This exhibition demonstrates the tremendous talent of the nine artists.
The exhibition features a diverse range of paintings that each of the artists have been developing over many months and some pieces, even years.
The Stradbally Library Painters are delighted to host their first group exhibition in the Laois Arthouse. The Arts Office are facilitating the exhibition, providing the Laois Arthouse Gallery as the venue, framing advice, along with supporting the opening night and invigilation of the exhibition run.
Thanks to Laois Libraires who funded a series of workshops in advance of the exhibition to cover all aspects of making, developing, and curating the work.
The nine artists exhibiting in DÚLRA are, Frances Cummins, Maura Delaney, Kathleen Devoy, Margaret Devoy, Jim Kehoe, Christy Moran, Brendan Scully, Marie Walsh (Ruddy), and Siobhan Wheatley.
The exhibition opens on Thursday the 30th of November 2023 at 7pm with Cathaoirleach
Paschal Mc Evoy launching the show.
Refreshments will be served. DÚLRA runs until Friday 15th of December. The paintings have been beautifully framed and would make a welcome Christmas present. The purchased paintings can be collected on the 15th of December from 1 to 4pm when the exhibition concludes. The exhibition is open to view from the opening on Thursday 30th November until the 14th of December.
