Latest Laois Event: Emo pupils shine at National Credit Union Schools Quiz

Congrats Katie Moore, Seán Kiernan, Pierce Milner & Ronan Crowley

Well done to Katie Moore, Seán Kiernan, Pierce Milner and Ronan Crowley who represented Emo N.S., County Laois and the Leinster Region so well yesterday (April 2nd) at the National Finals of the Credit Union Schools Quiz. 

The quiz had over 80 teams from all across the country competing in the RDS in Dublin. The pupils (under 11 yrs)  from Emo NS were successful in both the preliminary and regional stages of the competition. Considering over 25,000 primary school children participated in this year’s competition, it was a great achievement to reach the Final. 

There were 10 rounds which amounted to 60 general knowledge questions.

No silverware but a super performance and a close encounter! Going into round 9, the quizzers found themselves in joint 3rd place but stumbled over a couple of very difficult questions in the final round.

A very proud day for the school, congratulations to the children for getting so far and for all the work and effort put in over the past few months.

The parents involved wish to give special thanks to Portarlington Credit Union (CU) for their support including Bridie Keegan staff member who was present at the quiz. Portarlington CU very kindly provided tokens to each member of the team for refreshments at both the Regional & Final competitions. 

Thank you also to Emo N.S. Principal Cyril Duggan and wonderful class teacher Angela Casey who supported the team and for all the quiz preparation. It was a fabulous experience for all.
