Laois Youth Theatre is Back!
Laois Youth Theatre returns after the summer break on October the 1st with a free introductory session on stage at the Dunamaise Arts Centre at 6:30pm. Our weekly workshops happen in Dance Laois, 4 Hynes Square, Portlaoise, R32 X659, which is just around the corner. Youth Theatre is open to young people aged 12-18 who are interested in drama, acting, creative writing, comedy, storytelling and everything else that goes into making theatre happen – on and off stage! If you’re shy of performance, but have a creative mind for design, storytelling and collaboration, these weekly workshops will support learning new skills, developing confidence and making friends.
Youth Theatre is your chance to tell stories and make theatre that reflects your point of view, your sense of humour, working collaboratively with facilitator Pauline Dunne to devise their own work. On the 21st of May, just before breaking for summer, Laois Youth Theatre performed a rehearsed reading of their work-in-progress Anti-Bullying, a play about group of TYs half-heartedly taking part in an inter-school competition to find the next great Anti-Bullying Campaign who discover that someone has stolen the 7000 euro for their French Trip.
On top of all that, there’s other benefits to joining Laois Youth Theatre – members can avail of free and low cost tickets to professional theatre performances and film screenings at Dunamaise Arts Centre and other Laois venues. Our affiliation with Youth Theatre Ireland gives members the opportunity to participate in national events that bring together young people from all over the country to make lifelong friends! Members of Laois Youth Theatre travelled to the National Festival of Youth Theatres in Kilkenny, to take part in a week of specialised workshop series, fun activities, and meet people who represented 12 different youth theatres.
