Laois Arts Office: Summer Arts Programme 2016
Midway through the Laois County Council Summer Arts Programme we have had lots of fun and creativity throughout the county for children and young people. The first two weeks saw young artists in Kiln Lane, Mountrath under the direction of artist Wendy Wright having fun making clay creatures and paintings for their own imaginative animal world. Artist Conor Brennan worked with a group of young artists in the MDA Mountmellick , for three days of fun with art.

Our third week will see Fin O’Hara from Fin Pottery tuition in Portlaoise at the Youth Education Centre helping the young pottery enthusiasts design fantastic pieces of pottery art to take home. August 2nd to 4th we have artist Lorraine Walsh visiting the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally for the ever popular Shadow Play Workshops. Themed around “Fantastical Creatures” it’s a fun exploration of light and shadow for young artists. Create your own shadow puppet and try it out behind a shadow screen. Explore the translucency of materials. Imagine a story around your fantastic creature and learn how to perform your very own shadow play! (places still available)
The final week 9th to 11th August we have comic artist Donal Casey at the Dunamaise giving expert advice and help to young people aged 12 to 18 on creating their own comic storyboard. We have very limited places on this final workshop.
