Laois success at World Handball Championships
Some great news from the World Handball Championships last night (Friday August 20th) where our CLG Laois handballers recorded a number of outstanding victories to qualify for World Finals!!!!
In the Men’s C Doubles semi-final Tómas Lennon & Michael Donovan played their best handball to date to defeat Steven O’Neill (Antrim) & Kevin Rossiter (Carlow) 21-9 21-6. They now face Dan Breen (Kilkenny) & Noel Holohan (Wexford) in what should be a close and exciting final.
In the Men’s B Doubles semi-final there was more joy for Laois with Paddy Donovan and Tómas Donegan (Limerick) powering their way past Robert Fox (Meath) and Jonathan Walsh (Tipperary) 21-17 21-7. In the final they will play Michael Morgan and Vincent Maling (USA).
Paddy and Tómas will also be in action in Men’s 45+ doubles semi-final where they will be confident that they can progress through to a second final.
In the Men’s 50+ singles semi-final Paddy faced the daunting task of playing the legendary Danny Bell (Canada). The Canadian showed why he is still considered to be one of the best exponents of the game of handball recording a 21-10 21-3 victory. However with the prospect of potentially having two World Championships Doubles Finals to play in, Paddy will still be very content with his efforts over the course of the week.
