Laois Scouts/Beavers update

THIRD LAOIS DURROW SCOUTS:

Beaver News: Huge congratulations to our Wednesday Beavers on coming second in the first Slieve Bloom County Challenge. There were 19 Lodges from all over the county and they did really well in coming second, as the section is only up and running for about a year and a half – great work by all involved! Our second Lodge of beavers from the Friday section also did very well coming in fifth place which is great to see. Next year the Slieve Bloom County Challenge will be a pre-qualifier for a National event and we are sure our beavers will be up there at the top levels again.

Scout News: This weekend, our Wolf Patrol from the Scout section travelled to Tullamore to take part in this year’s County Camp Slieve Bloom challenge. Our Patrol was as follows: Kate Campion PL, Rebecca Jacob APL, Jordan Donohue, Niamh Fennel, Roisin Phelan, Amy and Leah Brophy and Leah Kelly.
The eight arrived at the campsite, unloaded the truck and then they were allocated a site and this was their home for the weekend. They were fully self-sufficient for the weekend, pitching tents, building tables, tending to fires, wash up areas and many more camp gadgets. On Saturday and Sunday evening they cooked a test meal. On Saturday they had a disco in Charleville Castle and Saturday night a campfire.
All day Sunday they girls were out on bases testing their skill in Backwood – where they gutted and cooked fish; Air – were they made a kite; First Aid – where they were given a scenario; also they built a boat on the Water base. The girls did a great job on all these bases.
All weekend they were marked, and on Sunday the site was dropped and the anxious wait for results. We were all very proud of our Patrol as they were award Silver Standard. Great work girls – you all did a great job and it is great to see the standard of scouting rising within the whole group.
Congratulations to Roscrea on coming first and second and also to Portlaoise on coming third. Best of luck to you all in the Phoenix Challenge in August. Thank you to Camp Chief Johnny Campion and sub camp Chiefs Aine Lynch, Portlaoise and Lorna Campion. These two ladies did a great job. Also thanks to Tullamore; our hosts. We look forward to next year’s Challenge.
