Portlaoise College Girls Take to the Basketball Court

 

1st and 2nd year girls from Portlaoise College became the first girls to represent the the school on the basketball court, as they began their Midlands Schools Basketball League competition for the very first time. Girls basketball has been a great addition to the already substantial array of extra-curricular activities available at the school.

 

The 1st year girls were the first to take to the court against a strong team from Colaiste Naomh Cormac. In a tight game they were narrowly defeated despite a great showing, in particular from Portlaoise College’s top scorer Melissa Donnelly.

Next up were the 2nd year girls against, again playing Colaiste Naomh Cormac. There was plenty of great basketball played from both teams but Portlaoise College battled through the register the first ever win for the school in the girls basketball competition. Top scorer for Portlaoise College was the very impressive Kelly Delaney.

 

1st Yr Team: Abbie Doyle, Marta Kozakiewicz, Tamzin Murphy, Faith Sacre Quigley, Catriona Dillon, Sarah Fogarty, Aishat Temidayo Shitta, Zuzanna Dobrotwor, Melissa Donnelly, Molly McGannon, Alexandra Polak.

 

2nd Yr Team: Oliwia Mapwata, Siofra Marum, Farrah Scully, Karyna Tehza, Nikitta Cullen, Aoife Greene, Kelly Delaney, Katelyn Doyle, Flora Olatunji, Alisha Zambra Delaney, Katarzyna Polak, Gemima Kanyamuhang
